NHIF Revolutionizes Payment System: All Transactions Now Through Govt 222222 Paybill!

The NHIF announced on Sunday that, moving forward, payments for services will exclusively utilize Government Pay bill number 222222, informing both the public and employers.

In a declaration authorized by CEO Elijah Wachira, the organization notified users that the modifications would be implemented without delay.

“This is in line with the Kenya Gazette No. 16008 of 2022 and the Presidential Directive designating the use of Pay bill Number 222222 as the Government’s single payment platform,” the statement read in part.

Individuals who make monthly payments are recommended to utilize their NHIFM-ID NUMBER as their designated account number.

NHIF members who incurred a fine were instructed to replace NHIFM with NHIFP, followed by inputting their ID number.

From now on, employers making contributions for their employees will utilize the NHIFE-ESlip NUMBER as the account number for monthly contributions and the NHIFEP-EMPLOYER CODE for employer penalties.

“To access NHIF services, please visit www.selfcare-ecitizen.nhif.or.ke/ or www.nhif.or.ke or the NHIF Mobile App, available on the App Store or Play Store,” Wachira explained.

In June, President William Ruto declared that all governmental bodies would adopt a single payment channel for improved effectiveness.

Furthermore, he mentioned that implementing a solitary PayBill system would diminish corruption within governmental institutions by restricting face-to-face interactions.

As a result of President William Ruto’s instruction, more than 1488 PayBills managed by various government entities received notifications of impending closure.

On November 8, the President’s Office called upon 17 State Agencies that had declined to switch to the updated PayBill system.

Mercy Wanjau, the Cabinet Secretary, mentioned that multiple agencies were intentionally keeping individual bank accounts and promoting unofficial payment methods, as indicated during that period.
