NGO Helps Black Americans Reconnect with African Roots through Relocation to Kenya

A non-governmental organization (NGO) in Malindi, Kenya, is offering a unique program designed to help Americans of African descent reconnect with their roots. The initiative, led by Adila Mohammad, a U.S. citizen of African origin, seeks to help Black Americans trace their heritage and return to Africa after 400 years.

Adila, the founder of Adila Relocation Services, addressed the media on Thursday, April 3, to announce that the organization had successfully relocated 15 families to Kenya so far. She emphasized that the organization is prepared to assist any U.S. citizen with African roots in making a smooth transition back to Kenya.

“We’re here to assist Black Americans who wish to return to a place where they feel they truly belong,” said Adila Mohammad. “It’s about going back to spaces that are familiar, where people look, sound, and feel like us, where we can experience kindness and be appreciated.”

The relocation program, based in Malindi, Kilifi County, offers comprehensive support to its clients. This includes assistance with visa processing and obtaining all the necessary legal documents for immigration. Adila stressed that the aim is to make the transition as seamless as possible.

“We handle everything, from immigration paperwork to healthcare, ensuring a smooth and worry-free relocation process,” Adila explained.

The NGOโ€™s initiative comes at a time when many African migrants, including those from Kenya, face uncertain futures in the U.S. due to recent threats of deportation by U.S. President Donald Trump. His administration has emphasized the removal of foreign nationals, including many who entered the country illegally.

In light of this, the U.S. government recently launched the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Home application. This new app allows immigrants to self-deport, providing an option for those who wish to return to their home countries before facing forced deportation. As of the 2020 International Migrant Stock dataset by the United Nations, the U.S. is home to the largest number of Kenyan migrants, with around 157,000 Kenyans living in the country, 30,000 of whom are undocumented.

Adila Mohammad’s program offers a valuable opportunity for Black Americans to reconnect with their roots and find a supportive community in Kenya. It is an invitation to explore a new chapter in life, free from the struggles of racial discrimination and uncertainty.
