Next Azimio Protests: Date Announced

Martha Karua, principal of Azimio la Umoja, announced on May 2 that the coalition will resume mass action on May 4.

Karua, speaking at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Foundation, stated that the coalition’s plans to deliver petitions during Tuesday’s mass protests were thwarted by the Central Business District (CBD) security forces.

The former running mate of Azimio also accused the Kenya Kwanza administration of instructing the police to disrupt their peaceful protests.

“At the crack of dawn, police established stations throughout the Nairobi metropolitan area and city center to prevent us from carrying out our planned peaceful protests. Unfortunately, we were unable to present the petitions to the four offices due to the chaos.

On Monday, March 20, 2023, Raila spoke to a portion of the protesters.

“Despite these developments, we are encouraged by the Kenyans’ resolve to reclaim their nation. We advance. Tomorrow, we will take a break to regroup and strategize. Our demonstrations will resume on May 4th. Same meeting, office, and individuals, she added.

The Azimio procession intended to deliver the petitions to the Presidential Office, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), the National Treasury, and the Public Service Commission (PSC).

The principal of Azimio also criticized the rumored withdrawal of security for Raila Odinga (ODM) and Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper). As well as other opposition leaders, arguing that it would be a recipe for chaos.

“We would like to thank the Kenyans who braved cold weather and police brutality. To exercise their rights and present petitions to public authority.

Karua added, “We stated that the protests would be peaceful and in strict compliance with the law.”

The leader of the Narc-Kenya party also claimed that the new, slightly cheaper unga brands on the market were genetically modified.

She asserted that a portion of local millers had refused to sell the product on principle. Resulting in the disparity between sellers of inexpensive flour.
