Nandi Senator Calls for Removal of National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah

Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei is calling for the removal of National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah.

On Friday, June 14, in Ruai, Nairobi County, Cherargei accused Ichung’wah of being a polarizing presence in the National Assembly and suggested he should be dismissed from his role.

“I want the National Assembly to recognize that Kimani Ichung’wah no longer deserves the position of majority leader. He has become a divisive figure within the National Assembly, Parliament, and Kenya. I urge members of the National Assembly to take the necessary steps to remove him from his seat so he can focus on his inappropriate behavior,” Cherargei stated.

Cherargei also insisted that Ichung’wah show respect to Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, highlighting a recent incident where Ichung’wah greeted President William Ruto with one hand in his pocket, which Cherargei deemed disrespectful.

“I urge Kimani Ichung’wah to respect the Deputy President. We have seen him greeting the President with his hand in his pocket. He should be disciplined for this behavior,” Cherargei added.

Ichung’wah and Gachagua have been at odds recently over the one-man-one shilling revenue proposal and the unity of the Mt Kenya region.

The Deputy President supports the revenue formula, claiming it would ensure fair distribution of resources nationwide.

Conversely, Ichung’wah opposes the proposal, arguing that population alone should not dictate revenue allocation.

On June 10, Kikuyu lawmaker Ichung’wah advised Gachagua to act as a unifier for all Kenyans rather than focusing solely on the Mt Kenya region.

“If we believe our offices symbolize national unity, we must seek to unite all Kenyans, not just those from Mt Kenya,” he said.
