Nakuru Bar Shooting: CS Kindiki, IG Koome Condemn Incident As Second Victim Dies

The family of 31-year-old Laura Kwasira, the second person to die after allegedly getting shot by police constable Nicholas Musau at a club on Wednesday is seeking justice for their kin.ย

Laura Kwasira succumbed on Thursday, hours after getting shot on Wednesday night, in a quarrel over an unpaid bill of Ksh.14,250.

An autopsy conducted at the Nakuru Referral Hospital Morgue on Thursday revealed she died due to excessive bleeding.

โ€œShe was shot in the back…the body had five entry gunshot wounds and we have also identified five exit wounds. The bullets had damaged intestines, liver, pancreas and she had a loss of blood,โ€ Dr Titus Ngulungu, the Pathologist said.

The family is now seeking justice for Laura, a mother of 2 children who was the owner of the Las Vegas Lounge.

โ€œWe were concerned if there were still bullets lodged in the body but now it is clear and we are ready to proceed with the burial plans,โ€ Dr Josephat Kwasira, Laura’s father said.

The Family advocate Christopher Habashi added: โ€œShe was pursuing her PhD and has died like that. It is a case of extrajudicial killing and we are condemning it very highly and we’ll let the law take its course.โ€

Two days after the shootout incident, Las Vegas Lounge staff is still trying to come to terms with what happened.

The landlord and the director of the club revealed that Police constable Nicholas Musau was in the company of other people before they dispersed leaving him with a Ksh.14,250 bill.

โ€œThey were eight people; waliingia bar saa kumi na moja na they had disagreements with the colleagues nikakuja nikapata four people shot,โ€ Dishon Mutumba, the landlord said.

The Director of Las Vegas Lounge Denis Nyagaka added: โ€œAnytime the officers visit, we think we are safe but it is unfortunate that the same people who should bring security are killing people.โ€

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki and Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome have condemned the shooting incident involving the officer.

“If a police officer like the one here in Nakuru takes a gun and goes into a club, drinks, refuses to pay the bill, and starts to kill people, we have no business with such kind of officers,” Kindiki said.

“When someone has been brought the bill, but they have started killing people…we are not going to wait for IPOA, he must go to court,” Koome added.

Musau was arraigned in Nakuru on Thursday and police were granted seven days to detain him to enable recording statements from witnesses and conduct a mental assessment of the suspect.

The case will be mentioned on the 21st of this month.ย
