Nairobi to Employ 3,500 Youths for City Cleanup

The Governor of Nairobi, Johnson Sakaja, has announced that 3,500 youths will be hired to assist in a Nairobi cleanup effort.
Sunday at Friends Church (Quakers) in Donholm, Governor Sakaja informed the congregation that the city’s pollution levels are deplorable and must be addressed.

The county is severely understaffed, according to Governor Sakaja, which hinders efforts to manage garbage and waste collection.

He stated, “The city of Nairobi has been excessively filthy for some time now.”

“It is likely that the same individuals who cleaned the streets in the past continue to do so today. I am pleased to announce, and I thank my MCAs for passing a budget, that 3,500 youths will be hired this week to clean up Nairobi County.”

A procurement process for garbage tractors, lorries, and refuse compactors is currently underway, he added, to accommodate the large number.

Sakaja stated that the anticipated massive collection of garbage will be recycled to produce electricity.

“Within 30 days, the Dandora waste-to-energy plant will commission someone to take over the waste-to-energy to generate 45MW of electricity from the Dandora landfill,” he said.

His sentiments were echoed by President William Ruto. He who acknowledged that the city’s waste must be managed in light of the widespread pollution observed in its neighborhoods.

President Ruto stated that all city emitters have been identified and that the cleanup of their landfills will commence immediately.
