Nairobi Senator Vows to Go Suitless Until Raila Odinga Becomes President

Senator Edwin Sifuna of Nairobi has declared that he will not put on a suit until the leader of the Azimio party, Raila Odinga, has been sworn in as President of Kenya.

He stated that he was going to be dressing in what he referred to as “mavazi rasmi ya maandamano (official clothing for demonstrations)”.

The senator continued by saying that he was already wearing a pair of shoes that were suitable for maandamo and that he already owned a pair of shoes that were suitable for maandamo. He stated that the shoes were present from the younger generation.

“Mimi kuanzia leo sivai suti tenaโ€ฆ The next time tunavaa suti ni wakati tunasikia Baba akisema ‘Mimi Raila Amollo Odinga naapa ya kwamba nitarudisha bei ya unga ifike soo,” he said.

During the Azimio rally that took place on Tuesday at Kamukunji Grounds, Sifuna gave a speech.

Raila has attempted to run for president on five separate occasions, all without success: in 1997, 2002, 2013, 2017, and 2022.

The leader of the ODM has insisted that he won the elections in 2022 but that the results were rigged against him.

It is unclear at this time whether he will run for the highest office in 2027.

The senator requested that his backers put in a request on his behalf to prevent him from having to communicate with the Kenya Kwanza leaders.

“Please tell him (Raila) that Sifuna has kindly requested that you do not send him to talk to these slow people again,” he said. “Sifuna has kindly requested that you do not send him to talk to these slow people again.”

In solidarity with other influential figures, he joined the call for protests against the rising cost of living.

“Tukianza hii maandamano kaende kaende,” he added.

Sifuna is one of the seven Azimio leaders selected to represent the coalition in the bipartisan talks.
