Mutahi Kahiga Urges Ruto to Allocate 8 Cabinet Seats to Mt Kenya: “They Belong to Us”
Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga has cautioned President William Ruto in anticipation of the Cabinet reshuffle.
On July 16, Kahiga urged Ruto to allocate eight Cabinet Secretary roles to the Mt Kenya region.
Kahiga emphasized that the recently dismissed CSs from the region had secured their positions due to the substantial support of over 3 million votes garnered by the Mt Kenya region for the Kenya Kwanza Alliance.
“I want to remind the president that Mt Kenya gave him at least 3.5 million votes in the last elections, and we had eight seats with Mt Kenya representatives…from the likes of Justin Muturi, Alice Wahome, Moses Kuria, and the rest. Ruto needs to understand that all those seats that were held by Mt Kenya representatives were done through an agreement they had with his Deputy Rigathi Gachagua,” Kahiga remarked.
Kahiga, a key supporter of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, warned Ruto against neglecting the interests of the Mt Kenya region.

He emphasized that Ruto’s political future could be jeopardized if he does not appoint eight Cabinet Secretaries from the region.
“If he is listening to me, I want to remind Ruto that those seats belonged to us…and if he minds the people of Mt Kenya, he should listen. In my opinion, I would warn him that picking anyone from another region will be a start to his downfall,” he added.
The outspoken governor stated that the president should consider sharing the 14 slots with other regions but should not attempt to reduce the number of seats previously held by leaders hailing from the Mt Kenya voting bloc.
“I accept that we cannot force decisions on Ruto, however, all our eight seats should remain intact. This is a warning that if Ruto wants to assign other people from other regions to his cabinet, he should consider the other 14 vacant positions but leave the eight intact for Mt Kenya,” the governor stated.
