Musalia Mudavadi hints at Ruto-Raila ‘handshake’
Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has suggested the likelihood of a potential reconciliation or agreement between President William Ruto and Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga.
Addressing the crowd on Sunday in Mr. Odinga’s hometown of Bondo, Mr. Mudavadi hinted at a significant announcement that held promise for the residents of Bondo.
“I want you to have a good look at me. Very soon we shall surprise you with good and pleasant news. Mark the date and place where I have said this. I have said something. Let me not delve much into it,” Mr Mudavadi said.
The audience at the event responded to his comments with enthusiastic cheers and ululations.
ODM elected officials, despite being formally invited, chose to stay away from the event.
The residents have construed Mr. Mudavadi’s comments to suggest the possibility of either a political reconciliation between President Ruto and Mr. Odinga or the likelihood of the ODM leader securing a prominent position within the African Union.

The tenure of Moussa Faki, the current chairperson of the African Union Commission, is anticipated to conclude next year, and member states have already commenced lobbying for the position.
It is reported that Mr. Odinga is interested in the position, but the political dynamics require a candidate to receive endorsement from the government.
As per analysts, a potential agreement between the president and Mr. Odinga in the political realm would exacerbate the existing instability within the Azimio coalition.
Should it occur, the agreement would strategically prevent Mr. Odinga from participating in the 2027 election, thereby necessitating political reconfigurations.
If President Ruto and Mr. Odinga unite, it would mirror the events of 2018 when Mr. Odinga reconciled with President Uhuru Kenyatta, despite having been defeated by him in two consecutive elections.
The agreement sealed through the handshake between Mr. Kenyatta and Mr. Odinga ultimately marginalized the then Deputy President Ruto from the focal point of authority, resulting in a significant rift within the Jubilee government.
