Murkomen Shakes Up NTSA Board: Revokes Appointments of 3 Members

On Friday, June 9, Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen revoked the appointments of three National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) board members, just four months after their hiring.

Nimo Omar Haji, Charles Nybuti, and Simon Kalekem had their appointments revoked.

Murkomen subsequently replaced the trio with Johnson Losilian, Paul Posho, and Lilian Nyabonyi Mogenyi.

The new appointees will begin their three-year terms on 9 June 2023.

However, Murkomen did not provide a reason for the revocation in his notice.

President William Ruto also revoked Aden Noor Ali’s position as chairman of the NTSA board. Manoj Shah, who will serve for three years, has replaced Ali.

“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 6 (1) (a) of the National Transport and Safety Authority Act, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, appoint Manoj Shah (DR.) to be the chairperson of the Board of Directors of the National Transport and Safety Authority for three years, beginning on June 9, 2023. “Aden Noor Ali’s appointment is revoked,” a portion of the statement read.

As board members, the new appointees will propose and advise on policy formulation within the public transportation sector.

They will also assist in the development of work plans and budgets, as well as oversee the execution of directorate work plans.

In addition, the new board members will devise strategies to reduce road accidents and supervise the road agency’s performance management.

Murkomen appointed new board members on February 10 to help restructure the country’s transportation sector.

Murkomen also revoked other appointments made by his predecessor James Macharia during the February 2023 changes.
