Muhoozi Museveni Declares 2026 Presidential Run

General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the son of Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, has announced that he will run for the presidency in 2026. Muhoozi, who is known for his controversial posts on social media, announced in a tweet on Wednesday, saying that people have been asking him to announce for some time.

In January, Muhoozi caused a stir on Twitter when he said that he was certain to succeed his father, who has been in power since 1986. He also claimed that those who were trying to prevent him from becoming president were fighting a losing battle.

If Muhoozi does run for president in 2026, he may find himself running against his father, who has already been announced as the flag bearer for the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party in the upcoming elections.

Museveni will be seeking his seventh term in office.

The announcement of Muhoozi’s candidacy is likely to spark mixed reactions among Ugandans, many of whom are tired of Museveni’s long rule and have been calling for a change in leadership.

Muhoozi is seen by some as a continuation of his father’s regime, and his military background has raised concerns among those who fear a further erosion of democratic freedoms.

Despite these concerns, Muhoozi has a strong following among young people in Uganda, who see him as a fresh face and a potential agent of change.

His announcement may energize his supporters and bring more young people into the political process.

It remains to be seen how Muhoozi’s candidacy will play out in the coming years.

His father’s grip on power remains strong, and he has shown no signs of stepping down anytime soon.

But Muhoozi’s announcement is a clear indication that the battle for Uganda’s political future is already underway, and that the country’s young people are determined to have a say in the outcome.
