On Friday, Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria criticized Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, despite ongoing reports suggesting that the two have been embroiled in a leadership rivalry regarding Mount Kenya.

Kuria redoubled his criticisms of the Deputy President in a statement, this time using the visit of King Charles III to the country to provoke Gachagua.

“Sasa venye King amerudi kwao, fake Kingpins you can take over,” Kuria said.

CS Kuria has attributed his misfortunes to the Deputy President on multiple occasions.

As an illustration, upon being reassigned from the lucrative Trade portfolio to the Public Service Ministry, CS Kuria issued a cryptic statement attributing the removal from the influential position to Gachagua.

An additional incident that underscored the dispute between the two was when CS Kuria disregarded Kenyans who were expressing discontent regarding the exorbitant cost of petroleum.

CS Kuria advised Kenyans dissatisfied with the exorbitant cost of fuel to excavate their wells rather than constantly voice their discontent.

Additionally, he cautioned Kenyans that petroleum costs would escalate by Ksh10 per month until February 2024, to emphasize that the situation was not under the authority of the government.

Nevertheless, upon Kuria and Council of Economic Advisors Chairperson David Ndii’s remarks, Gachagua, who had just returned to the country, issued a warning. He cautioned them against their condescending demeanor and advised them against speaking arrogantly to Kenyans.

“The Government remains aware of and is sensitive to the challenges Kenyans are facing today; the arrogant statements by a few leaders do not, in any way, reflect the official government position or that of President William Ruto,” Gachagua stated.

Similarly, on September 26, Gachagua convened a confidential meeting with Kuria at the domicile of the DP in Karen, to resolve the dispute.

As an expression of solidarity, Gachagua forwarded photographs that he had captured to Kuria. What they discussed, however, he refrained from disclosing.

He suggested that the government was eager to resolve the concerns of Kenyans through ongoing dialogue.

“Continuous engagement is our mode of governance. This evening, in the company of my younger brother, Trade Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria, we had an engagement with businessmen from Kajiado County,” Gachagua stated.
