Bandits ambushed Baringo North’s Member of Parliament, Joseph Makilap, and Florence Jematian, the Women Representative, on Saturday, March 16th.

The attackers, who emerged unexpectedly, began shooting at the convoy transporting the leaders to the Chemoe region.

Two lawmakers were joined by Red Cross personnel as they distributed aid provisions along the Yatya-Chemoe route within the Chepkesin region of Baringo County.

The occupants of the vehicles in the convoy narrowly escaped death, as the drivers were able to drive off the scene in time.

From the photos circulating on social media, it’s evident that the majority of the supplies were distributed before the convoy being attacked.

Local sources indicate that there were no casualties in the event. Additional information about the assault has not been revealed yet, with journalists characterizing it as a delicate issue.

In a comparable event, bandits targeted the vehicle of Baringo County Commissioner, Sangolo Kutwa, with gunfire. This occurred while Kutwa was leading a police convoy on a security operation in the Kanga Joto region.

The outlaws, posing as herders, caused injury to a police officer. The group was traveling in response to an assault that resulted in the death of a headteacher.

“We have been on an operation to apprehend those who committed the heinous act, we condemn the action,” the Baringo County Police Commander, Julius Kiragu stated.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has been sending extra personnel to regions susceptible to banditry.
