MP Tables Motion for Ksh 78M Refund, Adds Woes for Uhuru

President (Rtd.) Uhuru Kenyatta may be required to return Ksh78 million in retirement benefits if a motion introduced in Parliament passes.

The motion was introduced by Gatundu South MP Gabriel Kagombe, who represents the former President’s ancestral home, on Tuesday, May 2, according to a document obtained by GossipA2Z

Kagombe desires that the National Assembly compel the government to recover the retirement benefits paid to the former head of state because he violated the terms.

On March 16, 2023, Gabriel Kagombe, a member of parliament for Gatundu South, participated in a session of a parliamentary committee.

“Despite violating clause 4 (d), the immediate former president has continued to receive benefits. Therefore, as stewards of the law and public resources. This House resolves that the National government recover the Ksh78,764,000 paid to Uhuru Kenyatta through the appropriate ministries and agencies.

The lawmaker also requested that Prof. Njunguna Ndung’u, Cabinet Secretary of the National Treasury, cease future payments of retirement benefits to the former President.

In the motion, Kagombe also demanded that former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and his co-principal, Kalonzo Musyoka, be required to repay Ksh388.8 million and Ksh375.7 million, respectively, for their continued political involvement.

The motion by Kagombe also requests that CS Ndung’u provide the National Assembly with information regarding payments. Made to the three politicians since their respective retirement dates.
