MP Peter Salasya- “Alcoholics Are Noisy Than Weed Smokers”

Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has argued that marijuana users tend to be more peaceful than alcohol consumers, whom he described as rowdy and disruptive.

In a statement on his Instagram on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, Salasya went so far as to propose the legalization of marijuana, suggesting that alcohol should be banned instead.

โ€œPeople who use marijuana are generally more peaceful than those who drink alcohol. Weed can be legalized, but alcohol should be banned. Those who drink alcohol make more noise than marijuana users,โ€ Salasya remarked.

Salasyaโ€™s comments are consistent with his previous statements made in March 2024, when the government cracked down on illegal alcohol sales. At that time, he encouraged young people to avoid alcohol if they could not drink responsibly.

He warned about the dangers of excessive drinking, highlighting how it can negatively impact people’s lives. The MP expressed particular concern over bars that sell alcohol to young people during the day, contributing to the early drinking culture.

He called on the government to shut down such establishments and hold their owners accountable.

โ€œIf youโ€™re someone who cannot control your alcohol consumption, itโ€™s better to avoid it, as alcohol can ruin your life. Some people go to bars very early, claiming itโ€™s to โ€˜unlock,โ€™โ€ Salasya said.

โ€œIโ€™m committed to working with the government to shut down illegal alcohol vendors that operate during the day and to ensure the owners face consequences.โ€

This isnโ€™t the first time Salasya has commented on alcohol and his stance on it.

In September 2024, he proudly shared his commitment to not drinking during the day, calling it one of his key habits for success.

โ€œI made a vow to myself never to drink during the day. This has been one of my most important strengths,โ€ he said.
