Mount Kenya’s Political Rift: Governor Kahiga Warns Against Undermining DP Gachagua, You Will Regret It
Politicians aligned with Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua have launched a fierce counterattack against those they perceive as attempting to undermine his leadership as the struggle for political dominance intensifies in the Mt Kenya region.
Nyeri Governor Kahiga Mutahi, a staunch supporter of the Deputy President in his Mount Kenya stronghold, alleged that influential figures within the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party and the Kenyan government were actively working to destabilize Gachagua.
During the burial of Agnes Nyaguthii Munuhe at Kiawara Farm in Mathari, Nyeri County, Mr. Kahiga emphasized the vigilance of the Mount Kenya region, warning against misinterpreting their silence as weakness.
Asserting the Deputy President’s entitlement to respect by his position, Kahiga emphasized the need for those undermining him to reconsider their actions.
Position and Support
As the most senior politician representing the Mount Kenya region and holding the second-highest position in the country’s political and administrative hierarchy, Mr. Gachagua commands respect rather than the dismissive attitude displayed by certain senior figures in the government, according to Mr. Kahiga.
He stressed the attentive observation of the three million voters in the Mount Kenya region, hinting at an impending declaration of their stance on the matter.
Mr. Kahiga vowed that those undermining Mr. Gachagua would face consequences, highlighting the Deputy President’s grassroots support across the entire Mount Kenya region.
Amidst an ongoing confrontation between Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria and Mr. Gachagua over Mt Kenya politics and the Limuru III conference convened by Narc party leader Martha Karua and former Ndaragwa MP Jeremiah Kioni, Mr. Kuria challenged the Deputy President’s approach to addressing development grievances in Mount Kenya.
He disputed Mr. Gachagua’s insistence that such grievances should be directed through him, questioning his authority to act as a sole channel for addressing national concerns.
Perceived Scheme
The assaults on the Deputy President by Kuria and others are seen as part of a broader scheme to undermine his influence in the Mount Kenya region ahead of the upcoming general elections.
Mr. Gachagua’s endorsement of the “one man one vote” principle has sparked controversy, conflicting with the stance of UDA leadership and leaving him vulnerable to political attacks.
