Mount Kenya Leaders Clash as MP Kimani Ichung’wah Targets Deputy President Gachagua During Nyanza Tour
Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wah has come under fire for his sharp remarks aimed at Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Gachagua and Ichung’wah were part of the president’s delegation during a four-day working tour of Nyanza.
Throughout the tour, the Kikuyu legislator, who also serves as the Leader of the Majority in the National Assembly, frequently targeted Gachagua, accusing him of promoting tribalism.
In Siaya and Kisumu, Ichung’wah confronted Gachagua while the deputy president remained silent, accusing him of fostering division by allegedly restricting access to the State House.
Reacting to Ichung’wah’s recent outbursts against Gachagua, lawyer Donald Kipkorir criticized the MP, calling his actions disrespectful and counterproductive.
Kipkorir suggested that Ichung’wah’s persistent attacks on a senior leader were unwise and would yield no positive results.

“His new target in the presence of President William Ruto is our Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. When reprimanding our Deputy President, Ichungโwah reminds us of past sycophants who thrived under President Daniel Arap Moi by attacking perceived enemies. When President Ruto is not around, Ichungโwah is silent, like a powerless figure. It’s pitiful to see someone resort to such behavior only when the President is present,” Kipkorir said.
Kiambu Senator Karungo Thang’wah echoed Kipkorir’s views, deeming it unwise for Ichung’wah to continue attacking Gachagua while Nyanza leaders welcomed him warmly.
The senator suggested that the issue would be addressed, possibly politically, after the president’s Nyanza tour concluded.
Karungo urged Gachagua’s critics to unite behind the president in fostering national unity and focusing on the country’s development rather than engaging in divisive politics.
“It’s disappointing to witness some Mt. Kenya leaders harshly criticizing our Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua during the Nyanza tour. While the DP is being warmly received, a few detractors are trying to sow discord. Rest assured, once these tours are over, we will address these matters directly. I appreciate President William Ruto’s commitment to embracing diversity and unity across Kenya,” he stated.
