Mother Unveils Troubled Past of Nairobi Hospital’s Finance Chief’s Suspect

Doreen, the mother of the primary suspect in the homicide of Eric Maigo, the finance chief of Nairobi Hospital, has disclosed details regarding her daughter’s troubled youth.

The mother, Doreen, disclosed in a Monday investigation series that the apprehension of her daughter Anne Adhiambo about the homicide was not her initial encounter with law enforcement.

Doreen asserts that Adhiambo exhibited rebellious inclinations from an early age, as she initially attempted to evade academic discipline while enrolled in the fourth grade at Olympic Primary School in Kibera, Nairobi.

She was accused, among other things, of stealing Ksh1,000 from the institution she attended when she was in primary school. Her instructors subsequently leveled the accusation that she had struck her mother with a stone.

Anne Adhiambo’s mother identified as Doreen.

“A sponsor took my three children, including Anne, and enrolled them in school. She was taken to Olympic Primary School at around class 3,” Doreen recalled.

However, her conduct deteriorated after Marion, a Mzungu supporter, granted her admission to her children’s residence in Ruai to finance her education.

However, it was at Ruai that Adhiambo allegedly stole Ksh20,000 from her sponsor, which prompted law enforcement to apprehend her.

“When she went to Ruai Children’s Home, she stole some money from a school she attended. A total of Ksh20,000. She was found with Ksh15,000,” Doreen added indicating that her daughter later spent five years in jail and rehabilitation.

She was additionally charged with removing a mobile phone from her neighbor upon her release.

Adhiambo, who received 189 points on the national examinations for elementary school, was accused in her most recent run-in with the law of fatally stabbing Maigo in his apartment before evading the scene by leaping over a perimeter wall.

Maigo first entered a guilty plea but subsequently recanted it on November 9, following the judge granting her an opportunity to reconsider her involvement in the homicide.

“I am giving you more time so that you can consult your lawyer and get an understanding of what you have told the court,” the judge had initially ruled.

Subsequently, Adhiambo disclosed that she had entered a guilty plea to the homicide under duress.

About the age of her daughter, which was called into question in court, Doreen stated that she was ill at the time of Adhiambo’s birth and therefore unaware of the exact date.

“I don’t remember when she was born. While applying for her birth certificate, I guessed that she was born in 2003 but my sister insisted it was 2006,” Doreen told the press.
