Morara Secures Win in Court Despite Bomas Drama
A Nairobi court dismissed the charges against activist Morara Kebaso on Friday, citing defects in the charge sheet.
After representing the activist in court, his lawyer Pareno Solanka announced that Kebaso is now free, and the court has ordered the reimbursement of his bail.
“Morara has been released, bail to be returned to him,” the lawyer stated.
Kebaso had been arraigned on Tuesday on cyber harassment charges related to posts about President William Ruto and billionaire David Langat.
The charges against Kebaso were under Section 27 of the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act No. 5 of 2018.
The charge sheet accused him of spreading false information via his X account on September 28, intending to damage David Langat’s reputation.
The post claimed that President William Ruto had sought financial support from Langat during his campaign, leading Langat to take out substantial loans against his properties.

“William Ruto approached DL Langat and told him he desperately needed more money for the campaign. DL Langat used his properties as security and took big loans to help his friend,” read part of the charge sheet.
Following these allegations, Kebaso was dramatically arrested in Nairobi by masked police officers, who seized his phones and laptop before taking him into custody.
He was later presented in court and released on a Ksh50,000 bail.
Earlier on Friday, Kebaso faced a hostile situation at Bomas of Kenya, where he attempted to contribute to a public discussion involving Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Kebaso was met with aggression, as delegates threw chairs at him, forcing him to retreat and leave the venue.
Later, his lawyer revealed that Kebaso had gone to the hospital for medical attention.
“I was barred from entering Bomas at the gate. When I finally got in, I was denied the mic on Bomas’s floor. Chaos erupted. I am hurt. Headed to hospital. I live to speak another day,” Kebaso posted on his X account.
