Missing Activist Ndiangui Kinyagia Found, Family Lawyer Confirms
Missing blogger and activist Ndiangui Kinyagia is reportedly alive and safe, according to his family lawyer.
Wahome Thuku, the lawyer representing the family, shared that Ndiangui, who has been missing for over 10 days, is currently in hiding due to concerns for his safety.
In a statement posted on Facebook on Thursday, July 3, the lawyer revealed that Ndiangui had contacted a family member on Tuesday evening, reassuring them that he is indeed alive and doing well.
“I wish to inform Kenyans that Mr Ndiangui, who went missing last week, has contacted the family and that he is well, healthy and safe. Ndiangui contacted a family member on Tuesday evening from an undisclosed location,” Thuku stated.
The lawyer revealed that Ndiangui has gone into hiding, fearing for his life after learning that officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) were pursuing him over some unspecified criminal allegations.
According to Thuku, the activist is willing to turn himself in to the court today, but only if his safety and security can be assured. Interestingly, DCI chief Mohammed Amin was also scheduled to appear alongside the missing Ndiangui before Justice Chacha Mwita at the Milimani Law Courts today.
“We have therefore advised him to present himself before the High Court at Milimani Law Courts today, Thursday the 3rd July 2025 at 11am,” the lawyer noted.

Justice Chacha Mwita has ordered the DCI chief and Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja to show up in court after they missed a hearing on Tuesday, July 1. They need to explain what happened to Kinyagia, who vanished on Saturday, June 21.
Before this latest twist, the DCI was already under scrutiny after Ndiangui disappeared on the same day that some people thought to be DCI officers were seen searching his home in Kiambu County.
The raid was linked to Ndiangui’s social media post, where he shared a ‘timetable’ outlining plans for protests on June 25. This timetable included a march to the State House and a bold declaration of a new republic.
On Monday, June 30, Amin shared some surprising news: despite what many people believed, Kinyagia was not actually in the custody of the DCI. He did mention, though, that Kinyagia was considered a person of interest due to his involvement in publishing the protesters’ itinerary, which Amin labeled as “inflammatory material.” He urged the activist to come forward and speak with the police to help clarify the situation surrounding his disappearance.
Amin also revealed that his officers had conducted a search of the activist’s home, where they managed to recover some electronic devices that they hoped would shed light on their investigation.
Kinyagia’s disappearance has caused quite a stir among Kenyans, with numerous human rights organizations, including Amnesty International and the Law Society of Kenya, calling for his immediate and unconditional release.
