Ministry Of Education Issues Directive To Parents Ahead Of Third Term

The Ministry of Education has directed parents to ensure all school-going children are registered under the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF).

In a memo sent to County Directors of Education and Regional Directors of Education, Basic Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang said the registration should be done before the start of the third term.

โ€œRegistration of all Kenyans to the Social Health Insurance Fund commenced on the 1st of July 2024 as a key enabler towards the realization of our Universal Health Coverage.

โ€œAll School-going children are therefore required to register as dependents of their parents before school opening dates for 3rd term 2024,โ€ read the memo in part.

PS Kipsang noted that registration of SHIF can be done through sha.go.ke, 147#, or afyangu.go.ke. and a soft copy of the registration manual is available at www.sha.go.ke.

For any challenges during registration please get in touch with the Social Health Authority call center on 0800720601 or info@sha.go.ke,โ€ Kipsang stated.

At the same time, the basic education PS noted that the Ministry has developed an enhanced benefit package for Edu Afya to be covered under the Social Health Insurance Fund.

The Social Health Insurance Act was enacted on October 19 2023 and commenced on November 22, 2023.

Section 26 of the Act requires that every Kenyan, including children, shall register as a member of the Social Health Insurance Fund.
