Mining CS Salim Mvurya Revokes Appointment of Ruto’s Ambassador Appointee
On Friday, Mining Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya canceled Jessica Gakinya’s appointment as a member of the Board of Directors of the Kenya Fisheries Service.
In an official notice published in the Gazette, the Cabinet Secretary declared that Shukran Gure would assume the role formerly held by Gakinya. Gure has previously held the position of Garissa Woman Representative.
“The Cabinet Secretary for Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs appoints Shukran Gure to be a member of the Board of Directors of the Kenya Fisheries Service, for three years, with effect from March 15, 2024. The appointment of Jessica Gakinya is revoked,” read part of the notice.
In May 2022, Gakinya was selected by the former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary, Peter Munya, for a three-year term, commencing that month.
Her dismissal occurred shortly after President William Ruto selected Gakinya to serve as Kenya’s Ambassador to Rabat, Morocco.

If her appointment is confirmed, Gakinya aims to strengthen Kenya’s relations with Morocco following the establishment of Kenya’s new embassy in the North African nation.
On March 8, in addition to appointing Gakinya, Ruto also designated numerous other ambassadors.
