Meru MCA’s Bold Stand: Resignation in Solidarity With Governor Kawira Mwangaza
KiaguMCA Simon Kiambi, a representative from Meru County, has submitted his resignation verbally. He has stated that he was unable to deliver on the commitments he made to the electorate due to the ongoing discord among leaders in the devolved entity, which has resulted in two unsuccessful endeavors to impeach Governor Kawira Mwangaza.
The MCA, in a Monday address to the press, endorsed the notion of dissolving the Meru County Government, arguing that it is proper for the administration to be dissolved and for all elected officials to seek a new mandate from the people.
In his announcement, the MCA stated that his continued service in the government is untenable given the current situation.
“From today as Kiambi, I have appended my signature to dissolve the County Government of Meru as an elected MCA, and those who want to contest should get prepared”
“We want to revert power to the electorate because we have not been able to work ” the MCA stated.
In addition, the MCA requested that Governor Mwangaza forward the petition for dissolution to President William Ruto if circumstances require it.
“I have fired myself here and I am not going back, and I want this petition to go forward until it reaches the President to dissolve the Meru County Government,” Kiambi stated.
It was unjust, according to the Kiagu MCA, who has stood by Governor Mwangaza during all of her difficulties, for the citizens of Meru to continue to endure the brunt of disputes among their elected officials.

His remarks follow the initiation of a petition in Meru County, which demanded the dissolution of the government. Governor Mwangaza has endorsed these demands.
On Monday, a coalition of Meru residents and members of civil society initiated a signature campaign to overthrow the government, citing the ceaseless disputes between the Governor and the MCAs as the primary impediment to service delivery.
Governor Mwangaza, meanwhile, has maintained her defiance in the face of adversity, even declaring her readiness to receive and forward the petition to President William Ruto.
For the petition to be approved, a minimum of 10 percent of the registered electors in the County must support it, as specified in Section 123 of the County Governments Act.
The President then receives the report and is required to submit a report within fourteen days detailing the allegations and reasons that led to the suspension of a county government.
The Inter-Governmental Body, comprised of the President, Deputy President, and Council of Governors, is subsequently presented with this report.
