Matatu Driver Prosecuted for Halting First Lady’s Motorcade

Wednesday, June 21, a matatu driver was arraigned for allegedly blocking First Lady Rachel Ruto’s motorcade.

The driver told GossipA2Z that he was arrested around 6:30 a.m. Along University Way in Nairobi while transporting passengers to Kakamega.

The suspect disclosed that he was taken to Kabete Police Station before being transported to court to await indictment.

“They informed me that I was impeding the vehicles of the first lady. He stated, “I am currently awaiting the court’s decision.”

A passenger in the vehicle accused the police of unfairly treating the driver.

“Is this a public service? An innocent driver was brought before the court for no reason. “I now understand why innocent people languish in jail,” lamented the passenger.

The source revealed to GossipA2Z that the company dispatched a replacement driver to continue the journey after police arrested the original driver.

“As a citizen, I feel that the police officer falsely accused the driver,” he continued.

According to the passenger, the driver waited approximately fifteen minutes after the convoy had passed before being arrested and charged with obstruction.

The incident occurred less than two weeks after President William Ruto’s security team called the police on a taxi driver for a similar offense on June 7.

The driver attempted to defend himself by stating that his vehicle broke down as the President’s motorcade was traveling to Safari Park for the annual National Prayer Breakfast.

“As I was inspecting the vehicle to determine the problem, a motorcyclist stopped and ordered me to move my vehicle off the road,” he recalled.

He related that additional officers arrived to assist in pushing the vehicle to the side of the road. He was released after one hour of interrogation.
