Martha Karua Ditches NARC-Kenya, Launches ‘Liberation’ Party(PLP) to Woo Gen Z
The NARC-Kenya political party has officially changed its name to the Peopleโs Liberation Party (PLP). According to party leader Martha Karua, this rebranding reflects a new direction that prioritizes unity, openness, and responsibility while keeping the needs of the people at the center.ย ย
One of the key reasons for the change is to attract younger people, especially those from Generation Z. Karua noted that NARC-Kenya was established nearly two decades ago and, over time, had become less known among the younger population. By adopting the new identity of PLP, the party hopes to regain relevance and strengthen its dedication to democratic values.
โOur main reason for this change is to make it clear that we are now the Peopleโs Liberation Party, a group focused on freedom,โ Karua explained.

As part of the transformation, the party has also updated its colors and symbols. The original green rose that represented NARC-Kenya has been replaced with a purple rose, which symbolizes love, friendship, and peace. The new party colors are purple, lilac, and white, but it remains a “flower party.” The new slogan, “Unite – Liberate,” highlights its vision of bringing people together and fighting for their rights.
During her speech ahead of the official launch on Thursday, Karua criticized the Kenya Kwanza governmentโs decision to impose charges on national identity cards. She pointed out that many young people struggle financially and may not be able to afford these fees.ย ย
Karua warned that this move could have serious consequences, as it might prevent young people from getting essential documents needed to access government services. More importantly, it could stop them from participating in elections, ultimately affecting their ability to influence the country’s leadership and future
