Man Sues for $2.3M Over Unfulfilled Relationship Promise

In Singapore, a man is suing a woman for $1.9 million for ’emotional trauma’ after she refused to be his girlfriend after a four-year friendship.

K Kawshigan, a director at drone company D1 Racing, sued Nora Tan Shu Mei after she rejected him, claiming her actions harmed his “stellar reputation” and cost him at least five business partnerships.

Ms. Tan has filed a counter-suit, claiming she spent money on securing her home from Mr. Kawshigan and on counseling sessions.

The woman claims she had to install a digital door viewer, an alarm sensor, and a smart video doorbell to protect herself from the unwanted suitor, and she is looking for around $900 to cover the costs of the equipment and future counseling.

According to Channel News Asia, a magistrates’ court decision published on January 28 reveals that Mr. Kawshigan filed two lawsuits against Ms. Tan after their friendship ended when she told him she only saw him as a friend.

He initially sued Ms. Tan for $22,000 Singapore dollars, claiming she ‘broke an agreement’ to improve their relationship, but the magistrates’ court dismissed the case as an abuse of process.

According to CNA, the court stated that it would not be an accessory to Mr. Kawshigan’s “calculated attempt to compel engagement” from Ms. Tan.

Mr. Kawshigan is now suing Ms. Tan in the Singapore High Court for $3 million Singapore dollars ($1.9 million) for a variety of damages he claims she caused him, including trauma he claims he suffered when she told him she only saw him as a friend.

According to a Singapore High Court listing, the case is scheduled for February 9.

They became friends after meeting in 2016. They were both members of the Rotary Club of Bugis Junction, it is believed.

Their friendship began to deteriorate when they ‘became misaligned about how they saw their relationship,’ according to Ms. Tan.

Ms. Tan said she told Mr. Kawshigan that she saw him only as a friend, but that he considered her his ‘closest friend’. Ms. Tan later expressed a desire to limit their social interactions.’

Mr. Kawshigan, a director at D1 Racing, accused Ms. Tan of defamatory behavior against him in June 2019 and December 2020.

He claims she made false accusations, and that other people in the room overheard their conversation. He claims Ms. Tan told him she was harassed by his actions, including blocking her path on a doorstep.

Mr. Kawshigan also claims she defamed him by loudly declaring, ‘He is unnecessarily serving court documents to me personally and he has not tried other ways available to him.’

He claimed she was speaking near a microphone in July 2022 and was thus heard by others nearby.

Kawshigan claims Ms. Tan’s actions harmed his “stellar reputation” and caused him “trauma” and “depression” over the last two years.

He also claims that as a result of the ongoing disagreements, he has lost five business partnerships and is now struggling to gain new clients.

According to CNA, Ms. Tan has denied many of Mr. Kawshigan’s claims in her countersuit, which was seen by the news outlet.

She claims that from November 2016 to September 2020, they began to argue and disagree, causing their relationship to suffer.

According to her, this is when she requested less communication and meetings with him, and she told Mr. Kawshigan that they were only friends when he asked her to clarify the status of their friendship.

Following that, she claims she did not respond to mediation requests.

Mr. Kawshigan, she claims, appeared outside her home in October 2020, claiming to have filed court documents against her.

Ms. Tan also claims she was contacted by a woman posing as Mr. Kawshigan’s counselor. Ms. Tan claims she took part in joint therapy sessions with Mr. Kawshigan and the woman until.

May 2021. Similarly, after being contacted by someone claiming to be Mr. Kawshigan’s healer, she agreed to participate in joint ‘healing’ sessions that began in November 2021 and ran until May 2022.

Mr. Kawshigan filed his high court suit after Ms. Tan told him she didn’t want to talk to him anymore, which he claimed ‘forced him to escalate’.

Ms. Tan claims she was later contacted by a journalist about a high court case after receiving emails from individuals claiming to be Mr. Kawshigan’s lawyers.

She also claims that in July 2022, Mr. Kawshigan appeared outside her house with a woman and refused to leave when she told him to.
