Man Named In KDF Land Dispute Claims His Life Is In Danger After CS Duale’s Warning

A man who was warned by Cabinet Secretary of Defence Aden Duale last week has stated to the police in Eldoret town, expressing concerns about being followed by unidentified individuals.

Wilson Too Chepsilonge, who was warned by Duale to steer clear of a piece of land belonging to the Kenya Defence Force (KDF) Recruits Training School (RTS) in Kamagut, Uasin Gishu, expressed concern for his safety as he lodged a report at Eldoret Central Police station on Monday.

“Some strange individuals have been following me, they even kidnapped my grandson before even the CS mentioned me about the land,โ€ said the Chairman of Leseru – Tebeson Society.

Chepsilonge, a former educator, asserted that certain criminal organizations have shown interest in acquiring the 3,500-acre plot of land owned by one of their 500 associates.

“We paid all land rates amounting to Ksh. 26 million and we have all the bonafide documents to the land, we have no issues with military land in question because ours is different,” said Chepsilonge.

The CEO of the Centre Against Torture (CAT), Kimutai Kirui, along with human rights activists, strongly denounced the statements made by the CS, highlighting that they could incite violence.

Kirui has requested the Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission (EACC) to step in and address the issue.

While conducting a visit to the contested military territory in Kiplombe, Kamagut on March 28th, Duale was overheard referring to Chepsilonge, challenging him to present his paperwork to the land ministry for authentication.

โ€œThere is a man called Chepsilonge, he is from Kapsabet. I want you to take (tell) this to him, if the title he has is original, I want him to go to the land commission office on Tuesday to tell them to verify the paper. We are ready to present evidence that the document that cartels, led by Chepsilonge, are carrying around is fake,โ€ Duale stated.

He additionally alleged that Chepsilonge’s son reached out to him (Duale) and Lands PS Nixon Korir, soliciting their assistance. According to him, Chepsilonge’s son proposed a deal of 100 acres of land in exchange for the unspecified favor.

โ€œOur KDF has firm instructions to deal with Chepsilonge. I will deal with him. I want to help you all to get title deeds. When you see Chepsilonge, take a cane and chase him. Are you ready to chase Chepsilonge? How many are ready to chase Chepsilonge?โ€ the CS further told the crowd.ย

Last week, Duale, during the tour, affirmed the government’s dedication to resolving the conflict between the military and the inhabitants of Kamagut and Kiplombe in Uasin Gishu County.
