Man Drives For Over 400 Kilometres To Kill His Baby Mother’s New Boyfriend, Ends Up Killing The Wrong Man
A man from Texas, USA, who traveled hundreds of kilometers in an attempt to murder the new boyfriend of his child’s mother – but fatally shot the wrong man – will serve nearly the next three decades in prison.
Earlier this week, Kendell Jerrell Morris, 26, was sentenced to 27 years in prison after a Tarrant County jury found him guilty of the 2020 murder of Robert Cooley III, 24, according to court records.
As noted in a release shared by Tarrant County Criminal District Attorney Phil Sorrells, on May 4, 2020, Morris drove for over 400 kilometers – from Houston to Arlington to kill the new boyfriend of the mother of his child.
Upon arrival at the man’s assumed residence, Morris saw a man milling around the parking lot of the apartment complex and immediately shot at him, killing him – the man turned out to be a totally different man from the man he initially intended to kill.

“He thought he saw the boyfriend and opened fire, killing Robert Cooley III, 24, who was not the boyfriend,” Sorrells said.
According to court details, Morris never met the new boyfriend and the only physical description he had of him was that he was “a Black man with dreadlocks.”
As reported by several court outlets, the affidavit said that Morris had gotten into “adversarial conversations” with the Arlington man who was dating the mother of his child over the phone before he decided to confront him in person.
Three years after the murder happened, Morris was sentenced on Wednesday to 27 years in prison by a Tarrant County jury.
Per an online obituary, Cooley, the man who was mistakenly killed, was an “exceptional” athlete, and musician with hopes of “becoming big in the music industry.”
