A charter plane crashed onto an expressway north of Kuala Lumpur on Thursday, killing at least ten persons.

The aircraft took off from Langkawi International Airport and was en route to Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport, according to a statement from the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia.

“The aircraft made its initial contact with the Subang Air Traffic Control Tower at 2.47 p.m. [local time (2.47 a.m. ET)], and landing clearance was granted at 2.48 p.m.,” the statement reads. At 1.51 p.m. local time, the “Control Tower observed smoke emanating from the crash site, but the aircraft did not issue a mayday call,” according to the statement.

According to the state-run newspaper Berita Harian, Selangor Police Chief Hussein Omar Khan, the plane collided with a car and a motorcycle transporting one person each.

“Forensic personnel are in the process of collecting the remains and will bring them to the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital in Klang for a post-mortem examination and identification process,” Khan said, according to the state newspaper, adding that the Ministry of Transport will conduct an investigation.

Anthony Loke, minister of transport, stated that investigations are ongoing.
“No one survived the crash,” he stated during a press conference. “Victims (on the road) must also be identified; we will provide an update in due time. “Forensic confirmation is required.”

Images and videos captured by Malaysian media showed a section of highway that had been burned and was cordoned off, with haze in the air.
