Makau Mutua Predicts Rigathi Gachagua Will Resign Before His Impeachment on Tuesday
Lawyer and political seer Makau Mutua foresees Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua giving up his post before Tuesday, October 8.
Why Gachagua might resign soon
Mutua implied that Gachagua is alive to the adverse aftermath of his impeachment should he choose to sit along the process.
He avered that the deputy president, after weighing his chances, would resign to save his political career.
In Kenya, impeached people cannot hold public office, whether elective or appointive.
Mutua further foresaw that on noting that the worst awaits him, the deputy president might want to sink with some of the people who matter.
“DP Rigathi Gachagua will resign before Tuesday when he is certain to be impeached. But he will crp on all his “enemies” before he resigns. Like Donald Trump, he will try to burn the house down,” said Mutua on X.
How can Gachagua save himself?
Gossipa2z.com previously spotlighted the options the handlers of Gachagua are considering, as the latter risks being unceremoniously ejected from office.
The deputy president’s inner circles have reportedly been mulling over resignation as there seems to be a slight chance for him to survive the ouster.
Resignation would hand the deputy president a lifeline.
If impeached, he will not be allowed to be a holder of a public office, either elective or appointive.

Besides the resignation, Gachagua could be contemplating leaving the country for a time until his woes calm down.
His team might counsel him to quit either before defending himself before the National Assembly or immediately after.
How Gachagua will be impeached
The deputy president is scheduled to appear before the National Assembly plenary on Tuesday, October 8, to defend himself against the charges leading to his impeachment.
The charges on his name include alleged gross violations of the constitution, reckless and inflammatory remarks, misconduct regarding Gachagua’s responsibility as the principal assistant to Ruto, and corrupt and unlawful acquisition of assets valued at upward of KSh 5 billion.
A total of 291 MPs from across the aisle are in support of the motion.
After Gachagua mounts his defense, the MPs will take a vote, which must have at least two-thirds of the lawmakers, which will indicate the House has resolved to impeach him.
The matter will then be taken to the Senate, whose speaker will convene a seven-day meeting to review the charges against Gachagua.
Should the impeachment motion be supported by at least two-thirds of the senators after the hearing of both sides, Gachagua will cease to be the deputy president.
Meanwhile, Gachagua filed a petition in the High Court seeking to stop the impeachment process.
He said the impeachment is founded on lies and deceit, adding that his ouster would deprive Kenya of their sovereign will after voting him with President William Ruto.
