Majority of Kenyans (64%) Oppose Opposition Protests, Poll Finds

According to a survey conducted by Tifa, a research firm, most Kenyans are not in favor of the ongoing anti-government rallies organized by the Azimio coalition.

The report, which was released on Friday, was conducted between March 11 and March 19 of this year.

It revealed that only 31% of Kenyans support the Azimio demonstrations, while 64% of the survey respondents do not support them, and 4% have no opinion on the matter.

Regarding the possibility of the rallies leading to the removal of President William Ruto from office, only 16% of the respondents believed it was possible.

The majority, 72%, did not think the rallies could result in the president’s removal, while 12% were uncertain about the matter.

Regarding the creation of an office for the opposition and whether the Azimio coalition would accept it, 36% of the respondents believed that the move would make the opposition stronger, while 48% thought it would weaken the opposition. 16% remained neutral, stating that the move would make no difference.

It should be noted that the report’s findings have a margin of error of +/- 12%, and the research was conducted with a sample size of 2,065 respondents.

The respondents were interviewed face-to-face at the household level across the nine zones of Central Rift, Coast, Lower Eastern, Mt. Kenya, Nairobi, Northern, Nyanza, South Rift, and Western.

In summary, the Tifa survey found that the majority of Kenyans are not in support of the Azimio coalition’s anti-government rallies, and only a small percentage believe that the rallies could lead to the president’s removal from office.

Additionally, there are divided opinions on whether the creation of an opposition office would strengthen or weaken the opposition.
