Loyalty Rewarded: Kirinyaga Woman Rep Denies Skewed Appointments in Government

Njeri Maina, a woman representative from Kirinyaga, has defended the Kenya Kwanza government against allegations of tribal appointments in the public sector.

Friday on Citizen TV’s DayBreak Show. Maina stated that the administration led by President William Ruto. Was only rewarding its loyalists for the 2022 August General Election.

She refuted allegations of nepotism and tribalism in the appointments. Arguing that the government was concerned with fulfilling its campaign promises through the leadership it deemed suitable.

“I believe that when it comes to political appointments, we must be factual. What is crucial is that these men and women, who are qualified, exist. Do they possess the qualifications? Are they the individuals that the president and his vice president believe will be able to carry out his agenda?” Maina posed.

“At the end of the day, I am aware that the vice president has addressed many Kenyans on government shareholding… Politics is based on investments and loyalty, so these are the individuals the president and his vice president will be able to utilize to advance his agenda and fulfill his promises to the Kenyan people.

Citing past statements by Vice President Rigathi Gachagua. Comparing the government to a corporation with shareholders. The member of parliament defended the remarks. By implying that the DP was referring only to state appointments and not to development.

According to the lawmaker, Kenyans should focus on the regime’s development record and disregard the leadership running the country.

“DP Rigathi Gachagua did not speak about development; when we pay taxes to the government, we expect it to provide the services we pay for…He has made it clear that all nations will be treated equally. He spoke on the subject of government appointments. Even in developed nations, it is a fact that people appoint those they believe can carry out their agenda, she stated.

“Ultimately, it comes down to whether the government will deliver for someone in Kisumu, for mama mboga in Kirinyaga…Occasionally, I believe we place a lot of emphasis on the details, such as these representative appointments. “Service delivery is the only thing that matters in the end.”
