Louisville, Kentucky: 5 killed in bank shooting
Police say a Louisville, Kentucky bank employee opened fire and live-streamed the attack on Instagram, killing five.
40–64-year-old victims. Nine injured included a two-week-old police recruit.
After brain surgery, the officer is critical.
After three minutes, police shot and killed the attacker.
The city center Old National Bank was shot at 8:30 local time (12:30 GMT).
Caleb Goodlett told local media that his bank employee’s wife locked herself in the vault during the attack.
Witnesses saw the police-lone attacker shootout.
Governor Andy Beshear said bank senior vice-president Tommy Elliot, an “incredible friend,” was a victim.
“Tommy Elliott helped me build my law career, helped me become governor, gave me advice on being a good dad,” said Mr. Beshear.
Victims identified:
- Thomas Elliot, 63
- James Tutt, 64
- Joshua Barrick, 40
- Julianna Farmer, 45
- Deana Eckert, 57
Nickolas Wilt, 26, was the headshot Louisville Metro officer.
City Councilman Anthony Piagentini told the Courier-Journal that Mr. Wilt graduated on 31 March and that his brother is in the police academy.

Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg called the attack “evil targeted violence”. The mayor claimed that he was recently shot.
A psychotic man broke into his campaign office last year and shot him.
Two survivors told WHAS-TV that Monday’s gunfire began in the bank’s ground-floor conference room.
“Whoever next to me got shot—blood is on me,” one man pointed to his shirt.
Police said 25-year-old Connor Sturgeon used an AR-15-style semi-automatic rifle and streamed the shooting online.
“That’s tragic,” said Police Chief Jacquelyn Gwinn-Villaroel.
Instagram’s owner Meta said it “quickly removed the livestream of this tragic incident this morning”.
Online profiles describe the attacker as an Old National Bank syndications associate and portfolio banker. He worked as an intern for three years before finally getting hired full-time last year.
Officials say he had no prior law enforcement contact.
He had written a note detailing his mass shooting plans before going to work on Monday, according to US media.
The Gun Violence Archive reports 146 mass shootings in 2023, including 15 since April.
“Too many Americans are paying for the price of inaction with their lives,” tweeted President Joe Biden on Monday, demanding gun control from Congress.
Kentucky is one of 26 states that lets most adults over 21 buy and carry guns without a license.
