Limuru Sub-County Police Commander Dies in Kitui Road Accident
Limuru Sub County Police Commander Phillip Mwania on Friday succumbed after being involved in a tragic road accident.
The accident that occurred in Kitui County happened when the officer’s car was involved in a head-on collision with an oncoming truck, leading to the officer’s death.
The 11.30 pm incident took place near the Nzeeu River along the Kitui-Mutomo Highway while the officer was heading home.
Kitui County Police Commander Leah Kithei confirmed the incident noting that despite the officer’s death, the truck driver emerged unscathed.
Limuru Member of Parliament John Kiragu while confirming the incident condoled with the family of the deceased.
“Unfortunately, we lost the Limuru Sub County Police commander(SCPC), Mr Phillip Mwania in a tragic accident on his way from Kitui, yesterday” Kiragu stated.

“May his soul rest in eternal peace. My condolences to the family and friends,” he added.
Following the incident, Mwania’s body was moved to the Kitui County Referral Hospital awaiting postmortem.
The accident comes hours after two people died and several injured in a road accident along the Busia- Kisumu Highway.
The accident which occurred on Friday, March 1, involved a trailer and a Mombasa-bound Tahmeed bus.
Following the incident, the emergency team arrived at the scene and helped put out the fire that had engulfed the two vehicles.
According to police reports, the tanker hit the side of the bus which toppled over and caught fire resulting in the death of the two, including the trailer’s driver.
