Land Scammer Arrested After Attempting to Bribe DCI Officers at HQ

On Thursday, December 7, authorities apprehended a repeat offender involved in land fraud within the premises of the DCI headquarters located along Kiambu Road.

As per DCI’s announcement on Friday, JM, the individual in question, entered the DCI Mazingira complex and tried to offer a bribe to an officer from the Land Fraud Investigations Unit (LFIU) to impede the progress of inquiries into a case involving land grabbing.

The investigator from the DCI was perplexed by the boldness of the wanted individual involved in the land scam, as they requested a two-month delay in the ongoing investigations.

The individual was suspected of being involved with a group of swindlers who focused on defrauding older white inhabitants residing in the upscale neighborhoods of Nairobi.

The DCI has been conducting an inquiry into the suspect and their partner regarding a land seizure incident. Allegations suggest they unlawfully took possession of a 0.2026-hectare piece of land in the Thome V region.

“In this case, a team led by JM had on December last year been thrown out of the land in question which is located behind Roasters Hotel, after they were found erecting a perimeter wall under his supervision

“At the time, the case of attempted grabbing had been reported to the LFIU by yet another interested grabber, who melted away as soon as investigations gained momentum,” DCI stated.

After conducting further inquiries, the DCI found that the property was owned by a deceased individual from Kenya, and the deceased’s family, including the wife and children, were facing threats from a gang allegedly headed by JM.

JM had disappeared previously after being unable to present proof of ownership for the disputed land. Recently, he resurfaced and requested a meeting with the Investigating Officer concerning the case.

At that time, the suspect was also dealing with a comparable case, facing allegations of participating in a land acquisition controversy in the Runda region.

“JM placed Ksh200,000 on the table as a tip to the officer, all this time unaware that the office they had been ushered into had mounted cameras that recorded all the ongoing.”

“DCI Operations detectives moved in and whisked them away with the exhibits for processing and arraignment.” they further stated.

The DCI additionally disclosed that the mentioned cartel had multiple ongoing instances of land fraud. One such incident occurred on January 18, 2023, wherein JM pretended to be the Deputy OCS of Karen Police Station in a bid to seize a residence in Kren that belonged to a foreigner.
