KRA & DCI’s Joint Raid Seizes 3,800 Fake Booze Bottles Worth Ksh7M, Pursue Bar Owner Evading Ksh4M Tax
On Saturday, Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) and Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers initiated a pursuit of a bar proprietor who eluded capture after neglecting to remit Ksh4 million in delinquent taxes.
Officers conducted a joint operation that involved a raid on a residential home in the Kirigiti area of Kiambu County. During the raid, a total of 3,800 bottles of counterfeit beverages, valued at Ksh7 million, were seized.
The suspect, according to a statement by the DCI, failed to pay Ksh1 million in VAT and Ksh2 million in excise duty on the products.
Furthermore, from the same residence, authorities retrieved 260 liters of ethanol, bundles containing a variety of bottle caps, 3,440 empty bottles, and 24,000 counterfeit KRA stamps.
“Recoveries deposited being escorted to a KRA Warehouse. Further, detectives have launched a manhunt of the suspect who is still at large,” the detectives noted.

The detectives did not, however, elaborate on how the suspect evaded the officers’ pursuit.
A comparable incident transpired on Saturday of last week when DCI detectives and KRA officials collaborated to search an estate situated off Thika Road to apprehend individuals who were attempting to evade taxes.
The officers who executed the mid-morning assault purportedly seized more than 24,000 counterfeit KRA stamps and 40 liters of ethanol.
Amid the arrests, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua issued a directive prohibiting the distribution of illicit beverages and alcohol in the country.
The second-in-command delegated the responsibility of halting the unlawful operation to police commanders and administrative officers.
Gachagua asserts that the government would not relent until illicit alcohol sales were addressed, adding that no one would be exempt from consequences.
