Kiunjuri Refutes Claims His Daughter Started Moi girls Dormitory Fire That Killed 10
Laikipia East MP Mwangi Kiunjuri has publicly denied claims linking him to the girl responsible for the 2017 Moi Girls High School fire that killed 10 students.
This follows online allegations that the girl, despite receiving a five-year sentence in February 2022, has been living freely.
Kiunjuri responded on X, denouncing the claims as false and malicious, asserting that his political opponents fabricated the story to damage his reputation.
He clarified that he has never had a daughter or relative at Moi Nairobi Girls, condemning those spreading the false narrative as insensitive to the victims’ families.
Kiunjuri highlighted the harm caused by such rumors to the families of the victims, who still suffer from the tragedy’s aftermath.

He pointed out that the convict’s parents are known and accessible, and anyone can verify their identities by visiting the school.
The MP criticized the exploitation of tragic events for political gain, calling it heartless and disrespectful.
Expressing sympathy for the grieving parents, Kiunjuri lamented that reopening their emotional wounds for political purposes is deeply hurtful.
At the time of the fire, the convicted girl was 14 and resided in Kabarnet dormitory, where the blaze erupted after the holiday break.
Justice Stella Mutuku, while sentencing, emphasized that despite the girl’s age, the severity of her actions warranted accountability.
