Kisumu Morgue Vandalized and Robbed by Goons Days After Launch

The name of the funeral home is “Kwee Funeral Home.”

Two days after opening, the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital are counting its losses after equipment was vandalized and stolen by thugs during yesterday’s demonstrations.

The multi-million dollar urbanized morgue was inaugurated on Wednesday by the Honorable Anyang’ Nyong’o, Governor of Kisumu County.

In a Twitter statement, the governor expressed his displeasure with the barbaric incident, claiming that the thugs were posing as protesters.

“I am appalled by the barbaric and criminal incident that occurred this evening when thugs posing as protesters broke into the newly opened Kwee Farewell Home, damaged and stole expensive morgue equipment that I just commissioned two days ago,” she said.

Expensive reception sofa sets, computer software, 24 body refrigeration units, an autopsy set, a hydraulic body lift, and an embalming table were among the stolen and damaged items.

The governor also questioned where the police were at the time of the incident and condemned the looting of supermarkets, shops, and other businesses during the Maandamano Mondays and Thursdays organized by the former prime minister and opposition leader Raila Odinga.

He ordered the police to immediately conduct an investigation and arrest the perpetrators.

“I am perplexed as to why the police did not protect the facility from the group that stole computers and other valuable equipment. Additionally, we condemn today’s looting of a supermarket, shops, and numerous other private businesses. I request that the police hunt and apprehend these criminals.”

The Kwee Funeral Home morgue, which cost approximately 37 million dollars to construct, was previously designated as unique in the Western Region.

The county government contributed KSh13 million to the construction of the building, while Kenya Champs, CDC Kenya, and Emory University contributed KSh24 million for the facility’s equipment.
