    Kisumu Girls Closed Indefinitely

Kisumu Girls High School in Kisumu County has been closed indefinitely.

According to reports, the school was closed on Sunday following sustained unrest from students. Some of the students lamented there was an inhabitable environment at the school.

This came a day after the Ministry of Education announced the official closing dates for schools countrywide.

A section of the students reportedly demanded the resignation of the current principal and other officials in the administration. The chants at the national school prompted police officers to be summoned to restore peace on Sunday morning.

Reports also indicated that the students were rowdy from Friday and continued making noise and wreaking havoc over the weekend forcing the abrupt closure.

Nyanza Regional Director Of Education Nelson Sifuna revealed that the students also complained of corporal punishment adding that some of the allegations were being investigated by the school administration.

โ€œThe situation worsened yesterday when officers from the National Government Administration and Ministry of Education tried to address them at the Dining Hall but they were angry,” he added.

Sifuna revealed that the students refused to publicly voice out their issues and were given papers to write.

PoliticalPulseChat contacted the school but did not get a response by the time of publishing this article.

Meanwhile, from the photos circulating online, the school girls were spotted with their backpacks heading home with some boarding boda bodas at the school gate.

Some were in the company of their parents and guardians unsure of when they will return to school and complete the academic year.

If the issue is not resolved, form four students will be disadvantaged as they prepare for the national examinations scheduled for November.

Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang on Friday announced that the third term will run up to October 27 to allow candidates to sit for the national examinations.
