Kisumu DCI Launches Manhunt for County Assembly Break-In Goons
Officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Kisumu launched a manhunt for thugs suspected of breaking into the Kisumu County Assembly on July 2 night.
Assembly Clerk Owen Ojuok confirmed the incident on Monday, July 3, stating that the thieves stole several items, including televisions used to broadcast live proceedings.
In addition, Ojuok reported that missing Hansard equipment included a public address system.
An unknown number of criminals entered the building through a window, catching the guards off guard.
Ojuok was astounded by the thieves’ ability to enter a building that was under 24-hour surveillance.
“This must have been done by individuals who are very familiar with the area. “It’s puzzling how they were able to enter without our officers noticing,” stated the clerk.

In addition, he mentioned that the county assembly was located near the Kisumu Central Police Station and was staffed by a private security firm and two police officers.
Authorities have begun reviewing closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage as part of their investigation into the incident.
CCTV cameras caught a man breaking into Laikipia County offices on July 3, 2021, in a separate incident. He entered numerous offices and tore up documents.
According to the police, the suspect entered the assembly buildings at night and ransacked several offices before leaving without taking anything.
However, Laikipia County Assembly Speaker Lantano Nabaala later informed the media that the police had concluded their investigation and assured them there was no security risk.
“He came last night, we do not know who he was, and he did not steal anything, but he destroyed one computer,” he explained.
