Kipchoge’s immediate response to the unsettling messages was to check on his family.
In his account, Kipchoge denied any involvement in Kiptum’s death, stating, “It did not happen, but that’s how the world is.”
“I began calling many people and was very frightened,” Kipchoge recounted.
The two-time Olympic gold medalist revealed he had to put many family activities on hold as a safety measure.
Kipchoge explained he had to change training locations and lost about 90% of his friends due to the situation.
“My most challenging moment was when I called my mother, and she advised me to be cautious. But she also gave me strength,” Kipchoge recalled.
“It was really painful to learn that even my own people including my teammates expressed bad words towards me,” he added.
