Kioni Reveals Uhuru and Raila’s New Strategy To Frustrate Ruto
Jeremiah Kioni, the Secretary General of the Jubilee party, has disclosed the latest approach adopted by Azimio leaders to fortify the coalition and counteract the influence of Kenya Kwanza.
In a Tuesday interview, Kioni clarified that the leaders of the Azimio coalition, including former President Uhuru Kenyatta (Jubilee) and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga, along with other key figures, had collectively decided to withdraw to their respective parties and build their influence independently.
As per Kioni, employing this strategy played a vital role in attracting widespread support and enlisting Kenyans to come together for a shared purpose.
Kioni pointed to the extensive recruitment campaign conducted by the ODM party across nine counties as an initiative to rejuvenate the organization. Additionally, he cited the renewed series of meetings led by Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka as evidence that the strategy was already in progress.
“Azimio leaders agreed that everyone should build their parties individually to strengthen the Azimio. No one has left Azimio but the strength of the coalition is based on the strength of the parties involved,” he told TV47.
“That’s why you see Raila on a recruitment drive, Kalonzo is having meetings for the Wiper party, and Martha Karua is rallying up the NARC-Kenya party. It was agreed that it is everyone’s responsibility to ensure that their parties are formidable. Otherwise, what are you doing in Azimio? The parties will be united and will be speaking in one voice.”
In the interview, Kioni pointed out that the Kenya Kwanza government was apprehensive about Uhuru’s sway in the Mount Kenya area, given his continued role as the region’s key figure.

“We will consult Uhuru openly. It is not a crime. What are you afraid of? Is it because you kept insulting him and now you’re afraid that God has shown us your true colors?” Kioni posed.
“Uhuru is still the voice of Kenya. His influence is even much greater than when he was in power because at the time forces used to disrupt his work but now he is out of government. What he did speaks for itself. What he warned us of has also come to fruition. Those who are in the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party are still shaking because of the power that Uhuru yields.”
He mentioned that the Azimio coalition will persist in ensuring government accountability, which includes pushing for a reduction in the cost of living.
Azimio is advocating for a reduction in taxes outlined in the Finance Act of 2023. If this adjustment is not implemented, the coalition is prepared to rally its supporters and recommence large-scale demonstrations.
In December of 2023, Raila Odinga, the leader of the party, issued a caution that he intended to initiate new demonstrations against the government within the current year. However, as of now, Raila has not specified the dates for these protests.
