Kioni Claps Back: Addressing Gachagua on Security Remarks

Jeremiah Kioni, the secretary general of the embattled Jubilee Party, responded on July 31 to Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s statement that their security will be reinstated in three months.

Kioni indicated that the officers did not serve the politicians, but rather the current government.

“The guards are told to go, and they go. You are left pondering if they are protecting you or if they will be used against you. “It is best to be prepared; you have seen what has happened,” stated Kioni.

“We are so accustomed to living without security that we cannot even wait three months,” he continued.

Kioni reiterated that the government was using police officers to frame opposition leaders in assault cases involving demonstrators. He stated that police planned to plant weapons used in the protests in multiple residences, including that of the eldest son of former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

After the security was withdrawn, he disclosed that Azimio co-principal Kalonzo Musyoka hired security from Akamba land.

The former member of parliament for Ndaragwa suggested that the police were under the control of a few powerful individuals.

“We have identified the source of the threat. “We have returned to an unanticipated circumstance,” Kioni remarked.

According to Kioni, Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome was not authorized to accept orders from anyone and should operate independently to ensure Kenyans’ protection.

Gachagua proclaimed on Sunday, July 30 that police officers recalled by the national government will be reinstated three months after the end of the protests.

Gachagua explained that the officers were recalled to help quell the anti-government demonstrations that had resulted in property devastation and loss of life.

“Those police officers will be on standby for the next three months, or until Azimio assures Kenyans there will be no more demonstrations,” the second-in-command stated.

Security personnel assigned to opposition leaders, including former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, were withdrawn before the three-day demonstrations from July 19 to July 22.
