Kioni Accuses CS Kindiki of Organising Jubilee Rebel Meetings To Frustrate Uhuru

Jeremiah Kioni, the Secretary of Jubilee, has alleged that Kithure Kindiki, the Interior Cabinet Secretary, is coordinating party gatherings on behalf of the faction led by Kanini Kega.

In a communication directed to the Interior Cabinet Secretary on Friday, January 26, Kioni claimed that Kindiki’s department disrupted the principles of multiparty democracy by weakening opposition parties within the Azimio coalition.

He mentioned a purported gathering scheduled for today organized by the group called ‘Jubilee ni Sisi.’ The invitation cards for this event were said to have been obtained from the office of the Deputy County Commissioner in Nanyuki.

“Your office is now constantly engaged in organizing Jubilee Party meetings on behalf of the rebels. This is intended to undermine and sabotage the opposition parties within the Azimio La Umoja Coalition and specifically the Jubilee Party,” he claimed.

“A case in point is a meeting convened in Nanyuki, slated for January 27, 2024, whose invitation cards and letters are being collected from the Nanyuki Deputy County Commissioner’s (DCC) office on (January 26, 2024) under the guise of a new outfit called ‘Jubilee Ni Sisi’, which is a criminal enterprise.”

Kioni asserted that these incidents underscore the challenges faced by the Jubilee party since April 26 of the previous year. On that day, the party’s offices were forcefully raided by officers from Kileleshwa Police Station, leading to the intervention of former President Uhuru Kenyatta to restore order.

“The continued involvement of your office to contravene court orders and undermine multiparty, democracy, and specifically to destabilize the Jubilee Party, can occasion a crisis of monumental nature that will be costly,” he pointed out.

Kioni additionally encouraged Kindiki to guarantee that law enforcement officers comply with regulations and treat all political parties equally.

“Therefore, this is a call to your good office, to ensure that your officers are a source of public order as opposed to being the cause or avenue for public disorder,” he added.

Kioni has been in a contentious relationship with East Africa Legislative Assembly MP Kanini Kega and the nominated counterpart Sabina Chege regarding the leadership of the former ruling party.

The discord led to the emergence of two factions within the party, as members were split according to their allegiance either to Uhuru or his successor, William Ruto.

Additionally, Kioni’s remark is grounded in the decisions outlined in the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) report, where both the opposition and the government committed to upholding multiparty democracy. This comes in response to accusations that President Ruto interfered in Azimio’s matters by purportedly assuming control of Jubilee to secure a majority presence in parliament.
