Kindiki Reveals Why Gachagua Never Officially Handover Office After Impeachment
Nairobi โ Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has addressed the situation surrounding his relationship with his predecessor, Rigathi Gachagua, and discussed the issue of office handover.
Kindiki discussed his bond with Gachagua during a media roundtable interview on Thursday, December 19, where he stated that their relationship remains as strong as before.
He emphasized that there has been no change in their friendship since he assumed the role of Deputy President. “I have no reason to complain, we are still good friends,” Kindiki remarked.
The Deputy President also revealed that Gachagua did not formally hand over his office when he left. He explained that the lack of a handover was due to Gachaguaโs ongoing legal battle.
“There was no official handover because the former Deputy President is in court. You wouldnโt expect him to hand over while still in court,” Kindiki clarified.

Despite the situation, Kindiki expressed that he had no regrets about stepping into the role of Deputy President, highlighting that the impeachment process involving Gachagua had involved all three branches of government โ the Executive, Parliament, and the Judiciary.
Kindiki remarked that he saw no issues with how the impeachment process had unfolded. “If there were any issues, there are ways to address them,” he added.
Meanwhile, lawyer Ndegwa Njiru suggested that Gachagua might not receive a fair ruling from the Supreme Court if his impeachment case proceeds there.
Njiru pointed out that the court could be biased due to the involvement of Chief Justice Martha Koome, who had overseen Kindikiโs inauguration as Deputy President.
Njiru made these comments on November 2, during a funeral in Kirinyaga, where he was accompanying Gachagua.
