Kindiki: Gov’t Targets High-Profile Leaders Behind North Rift Banditry

The security apparatus is zeroing in on politicians and the most senior bandit commanders in the North Rift region.

This is according to Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki, who told Senators on Wednesday that they have apprehended a top bandit commander who is assisting them in uncovering the intricate web terrorizing Sugata Valley residents.

As he appeared before the Senate to answer questions, Kindiki promised that the perpetrators of the heinous crimes would soon be arrested and prosecuted.

“I want to assure the house that very soon we will have a very high arraignment of the command of bandits, whether they are civil commanders or politicians because we intend to build a case that will succeed in court,” he said.

Kindiki informed the Senators that despite occasional setbacks from bandit attacks, the security operation in the region is bearing fruit as they have not only recovered stolen livestock but also thwarted several planned attacks.

Kindiki assured the senators, “The banditry criminal enterprise has its command. Just last week, one of the senior commanders of banditry was captured alive. From the Korokon hills and arraigned in court. The leaders from Baringo know who terrorized us, and he is helping us zero in on the suspects.”

He added that any Kenyans displaced by the ongoing security operation in the region, particularly in Samburu County. Will be resettled.

“We have begun tracking whether there are any victims of the orders that I issued in Malaso on March 12. Beginning with Samburu tomorrow and all the other counties. If there are any genuine people who have been displaced as a result of these orders. The government of Kenya will facilitate either their return. Or their settlement. So that no Kenyan is deprived of their property or removed from their place of residence,” he said.

Senators sympathetic to Azimio, however, disregarded the question-and-answer session. Having previously filed a lawsuit to challenge CSs appearing before the plenary to answer questions.
