Kieni MP Who Suffered KSh 560M Loss after Supermarket Was Raided During Gen Z Demos Forgives Looters
Kieni’s Member of Parliament, Njoroge Wainaina, has expressed that he has moved past his grievances regarding the individuals who raided and vandalized his chain of three supermarkets in June, amid the widespread protests against the Finance Bill 2024.
The supermarkets, located in the central towns of Nyeri and Nanyuki, suffered significant damage during the unrest.
The branches were looted of goods worth hundreds of millions and subsequently set on fire.
The MP reported suffering a staggering loss exceeding KSh 560 million as a result of the attacks.
Following the incidents, Wainaina made efforts to appeal to the perpetrators to return the stolen items to his stores.

However, as two months have passed since the turmoil, he appears to have reconciled with the situation.
In recent developments, Wainaina has focused on rejuvenating his businesses and replenishing stock to continue catering to his customers.
During the reopening ceremony of the supermarkets earlier this week, the MP addressed the matter publicly, stating that he has forgiven those responsible for the destruction.
He clarified that the culprits were not the younger generation as initially perceived but rather ordinary criminals.
According to Wainaina, the attacks on his businesses were not politically motivated but rather acts of criminal behavior.
“As a family, we have decided to forgive those who caused damage to our business. We recognize that the individuals involved were not politically driven youths but common criminals. The destruction of my investments was not the result of any political agenda, as evidenced by the profiles of those who were apprehended,” Wainaina remarked.
