Kenya’s Azimio Initiative and Kwanza Bipartisan Talks Make Progress; IEBC Reconstitution Team Announced
The fourteen-member team tasked with facilitating bipartisan negotiations between the Azimio la Umoja and Kenya Kwanza coalitions has expressed satisfaction with the talks’ progress.
The team leaders of the coalition announced that they were making progress in reaching peaceful agreements and resolving contentious issues.
George Murugara of Kenya Kwanza, who is also the Member of Parliament for the Tharaka Constituency, stated that they have agreed to work with a hybrid model that will recognize both the parliamentary process and engagements outside of parliament that will permit people outside of parliament to express their opinions and serve as rapporteurs.
“As you can see, we agree on issue after issue. It appears that we are moving in the right direction. “When we talk at a distance, we agree,” Murugara stated.

Azimio’s team leader Otiende Amollo, who is also an MP for Rarieda, echoed Murugara’s sentiments, stating, “As a team, we are pleased with the progress of the negotiations.”
In addition, he stated that they have formed a team of six individuals, three from each side, who will begin to debunk the contentious issue of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) reconstitution.
Senators Edwin Sifuna of Nairobi, Enoch Wambua of Kitui, and Millie Odhiambo of Suba North will represent Senator Azimio.
Kenya Kwanza will be represented by Bomet Senator Hillary Sigei, Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale, and Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse.
“We anticipate that by the time they return, they will have developed concrete ideas regarding this,” he said.
