    Kenyans To Pay Access Fees To Access Gov’t Services On E-Citizen

    The implementation of charges for government services on the e-Citizen platform has been announced by Treasury and Economic Planning Cabinet Secretary Njuguna Ndung’u on behalf of the government.

    Ndung’u mentioned in an official notice that individuals wanting to use the platform’s services will need to pay a small administrative charge for each transaction.

    The services and charges are as follows;

    Below Ksh.199 will be charged at Ksh.5

    Between Ksh.200 – Ksh.299 at Ksh.10

    Between Ksh.300 – Ksh.499 at Ksh.15

    Between Ksh.500 – Ksh.699 at Ksh.20

    Between Ksh.700 – Ksh.999 at Ksh.25

    Over Ksh.1000 – Ksh.50

    Any dollar amount at I US dollar (Ksh.156 in current exchange rates)

    CS Ndung’u added that the changes took effect as of December 14, 2023.

    The pro-rated charges will apply to all services unless otherwise waived by the CS.

    The e-Citizen platform will serve as the structure enabling citizens and individuals to conveniently access government services and make payments.

    The e-Citizen platform is designed to act as the framework that allows citizens and individuals easy access to government services and facilitates convenient payment options.

    This occurs against the backdrop of the government’s instruction for every ministry to adhere to and promote the transition of all government services to the platform by December 31, 2023.

    Secretary to the Cabinet Mercy Wanjau in early December called upon all the Cabinet Secretaries to ensure the public is well informed on the 16,000 services expected to be onboarded on the e-Citizen online platform as they prioritise beating the deadline.
