Kenyan Woman Unveils Crime Syndicate in Finland Arrest

A routine passenger inspection at Helsinki-Vantaa Airport in Finland uncovered a human trafficking organization that smuggled Kenyans into European countries.

According to international news reports published by BNN on Tuesday, July 11th. The syndicate was discovered when a Kenyan woman was detained at the Helsinki-Vantaa airport with forged documents.

The airport security became dubious when the woman traveling from Paris, France, and requesting asylum in Finland presented a Somali passport.
The Helsinki-Vantaa airport informed BNN that the woman’s asylum claim did not match her passport information.

According to airport officials, further investigation into the suspect’s biometrics revealed that she is a Kenyan citizen who traveled through Turkey, Spain, and France before arriving in Finland.

A Somali national accompanied the woman.

Since then, it has come to light that the woman is among scores of vulnerable Kenyans smuggled into European countries.

The syndicate charges between Ksh500,000 and Ksh850,000 to smuggle Kenyans out, primarily to European and North American countries.

According to reports, “the group operated through contacts in various countries who provided travel arrangements, lodging, transportation, and documents for the smuggled individuals.”

    How syndicates function

The syndicate has mastered document forgery and established routes to avoid detection by immigration authorities.

“Some of the illegal immigrants flew directly from Kenya to Finland using counterfeit passports or permits.

BNN reported that others traveled through Turkey, Greece, Italy, Spain, France, or Germany using various modes of transportation such as buses, trains, automobiles, and boats.

Kenyans, according to European authorities, seek asylum in transit countries or use false identities to cross borders.

    Charges

The Kenyan woman will be charged with aggravated organization of unlawful entry and, if convicted, will be sentenced to six years in prison.

She is also being investigated for registry violations and providing false personal information, each of which carries a maximum sentence of two years in prison.

Other Kenyans who obtained asylum through the syndicate risk deportation if they are convicted.
